As your child prepares to transition from primary to secondary school, we understand that this can be an exciting yet sometimes overwhelming time for both students and families. At Richmond Park, we are committed to supporting our Year 5 and 6 students as they embark on this new chapter in their educational journey. This page is designed to provide information, resources, and support to help make the transition process as smooth and successful as possible.
Most of our pupils will transition to Queen Elizabeth High School (QEHS) as our local secondary school. We work closely with QEHS to ensure that all children are as prepared as possible to begin the exciting new chapters in their education.
Key Transition Dates:
Year 5 pupils will be invited to attend one transition day (exact date to be confirmed) during the week beginning 24th June, 2024.
All Year 6 Pupils will attend their QEHS transition days on:
Thursday 11th July, 2024
Friday 12th July, 2024
For those pupils requiring extra Transition support, a number of sessions will be arranged during the Spring/Summer term. Dates and times for these sessions will be arranged between the Transition Officers and the Primary Schools.

Transition Support
We recognise the importance of ensuring a seamless transition for our students as they prepare to enter secondary school. To support this transition, we offer:
- Transition Workshops: We organise workshops and information sessions to help students and parents learn more about the secondary school experience, including curriculum, extracurricular activities, and support services available.
- School Visits: We arrange visits to local secondary schools to familiarise students with the campus, meet teachers and staff, and get a feel for the new learning environment.
- Transition Guides: We provide comprehensive transition guides and resources to help students and parents navigate the transition process, including tips for academic success, managing transitions, and adjusting to secondary school life.
- Peer Support: We facilitate opportunities for Year 6 students to connect with older students who have already transitioned to secondary school, providing peer support and mentorship.

Preparing for Success
As your child prepares for the transition to secondary school, here are some tips to help them succeed:
- Stay Informed: Encourage your child to attend transition workshops, school visits, and information sessions to learn more about their new school and what to expect.
- Ask Questions: Encourage your child to ask questions and seek clarification about any concerns or uncertainties they may have about the transition process.
- Get Organised: Help your child stay organised by creating a transition timeline, setting goals, and developing a plan for managing their time and responsibilities.
- Stay Positive: Encourage your child to approach the transition with a positive attitude and an open mind. Remind them that it’s natural to feel nervous or apprehensive, but reassure them that they have the skills and support they need to succeed.
